Russian checkers 8×8
Move and capture rules:
- White moves first
- Checkers move only on dark squares
- Capturing is mandatory when possible
- Captures can be made forward or backward
- Kings move and capture on any diagonal square
- Turkish strike rule applies (one capture per move)
- Choose any capture option, not necessarily the longest
- A checker reaching the opponent’s edge becomes a king and can act as one immediately if possible.
When a draw is declared:
- If a player with three or more kings faces one opponent’s king and cannot capture it by their 15th move after the position is set
- If both players have kings and no captures or new kings occur: 30 moves for 4- or 5-piece endings, 60 moves for 6- or 7-piece endings
- If a player with three checkers (three kings, two kings and a checker, one king and two checkers, or three simple checkers) against an opponent’s king on the "high road" cannot capture it by their 5th move
- If only kings move for 15 moves without captures or simple checker moves
- If the same position repeats three or more times with the same side to move each time.
