Amazon's God of War TV Series Greenlit for Season 2 Before Season 1 Premiere

Amazon's adaptation of the iconic video game series, God of War, is already making waves even before its premiere. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore has confirmed that the series is set for not just one, but two full seasons, signaling strong confidence from Amazon in the project's potential.
Moore stepped in to lead the project following the exit of former showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, his colleague from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current endeavors. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite his involvement in the gaming world through God of War, Moore admitted he's not much of a gamer himself, preferring classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern game controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."
In his role with God of War, Moore is not only the showrunner but also serves as a writer and executive producer. His extensive experience includes working on major series like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica from the 2000s.
Although the previous team saw some changes, Sony's Cory Barlog remains an executive producer, ensuring continuity with the game's original vision. Details about the series are still emerging, but it's confirmed that it will be based on the 2018 installment of God of War.
Amazon's track record of swiftly renewing successful video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, sets a promising precedent for God of War's future on their streaming platform. This early commitment to multiple seasons reflects Amazon's belief in the series' potential to captivate audiences worldwide.
