Renewed interest in a new Star Wars Battlefront game has gained momentum thanks to an actor from the acclaimed series Andor.

Over the past month, players have returned to 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2 in droves - achieving the game's highest Steam player count in years, despite DICE having ended official support long ago.

Andor star Muhannad Ben Amor, who portrays rebel fighter Wilmon Paak, recently joined the fan campaign for a sequel through social media.

"Star Wars needs to deliver Battlefront 3 soon," Amor posted on Instagram, revealing his impressive 469-hour playtime in Battlefront 2. "Been a Battlefront 2 veteran since launch day," the actor continued. "Let's hope Battlefront 3 becomes reality."

The recent surge in Battlefront 2's popularity coincides with Andor's climactic second season and May 4 Star Wars celebrations. After years averaging just 2,000 concurrent Steam players, the game now approaches its all-time peak of 10,000 simultaneous players.

But does this renewed interest make Battlefront 3 more likely? Currently, DICE's focus remains on its upcoming untitled Battlefield project, expected to receive a full reveal this summer during testing phases.

DICE may remain cautious about revisiting the franchise after Battlefront 2's controversial loot box launch, though public perception has since improved. While EA no longer holds exclusive Star Wars game rights, Respawn continues developing Star Wars projects including a third Jedi title.

"Star Wars Battlefront 2 has completed a redemption arc worthy of the films themselves," noted IGN's 2019 re-review. "It now stands as one of the most authentic Star Wars gaming experiences available."
