Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has tempered expectations for the third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, revealing that recording hasn't even commenced.

In a conversation with Decider, Jerome stated that production on the anticipated finale is yet to begin, with several aspects still "being figured out." This delay isn't entirely surprising, considering the five-year gap between the first and second films.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about the film's production status. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively minor, his character is poised for a significant presence in the third. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: He's slated to portray the main antagonist. Jerome plays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who appears at the film's conclusion not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.

This Miles's journey diverges sharply from the protagonist's. The radioactive spider bite intended for the main Miles instead bit this alternate version. Consequently, Miles G. Morales never became Spider-Man. Following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, New York fell under the control of supervillains, and he ultimately joined their ranks.

The unfolding of this narrative, and its collision with the main Miles's story, will be central to Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans should anticipate a considerable wait. Deadline suggests a 2026 release at the earliest, though maintaining the previous film's release schedule would push it to 2028.
