Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive titles in the franchise, boasting an intricate progression system that matches its grand scale. Let's delve into the maximum levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and understand how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a refreshed approach to progression within the series. While the acquisition of skills is predominantly tied to the new Knowledge Ranks (more details on this later), there's also a conventional XP-based advancement. By accumulating XP in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, players can unlock higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, alongside enhancing the base stats of Naoe and Yasuke.

Although reaching Level 35 is sufficient to explore all the Japanese provinces featured on the game's map, the XP journey extends well beyond this point. Initially, Ubisoft suggested a Level Cap of 40 in their pre-launch progression deep dive, but players can actually push their level all the way to 60. There's a good chance that this cap will be raised even further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system marks a significant evolution in the franchise's progression mechanics. Distinct from XP leveling, Knowledge Ranks are advanced by earning Knowledge Points through various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As players ascend through the Knowledge Ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, although these skills must be unlocked and activated using Mastery Points.

To access every skill for unlocking, players need to reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, this isn't the end of the road for Knowledge Rank progression. Upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock a new Knowledge tree, offering several passive skills that allow players to refine their build according to their preferred play style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery represents the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, functioning similarly to skill points. These Mastery Points are essential for unlocking new skills within the various Mastery trees, with some skills requiring more points than others.

With six Mastery trees available for each protagonist, there's a vast array of skills to unlock. Mastery Points can be earned through a wide range of activities, ensuring players have numerous opportunities to gather enough points for their desired skills. Although theoretically, players could reach a limit on Mastery Points, this would require completing an extensive amount of activities. The *Claws of Awaji* expansion, set to release later in 2025, is expected to introduce additional methods for earning Mastery.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each province in Japan is assigned a specific level. At the beginning of the game, the highest level requirement is for Kii, set at Level 35. As players progress and gain XP, the levels of certain regions will adjust to match the player's level.

However, there's a cap on how high the levels for enemies and overall province difficulty can scale once you reach Level 40 and beyond. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province tends to remain two levels below your current XP level. This mechanism ensures that the game remains challenging and maintains a suitable combat pace in the endgame, while still rewarding players who dedicate extensive hours to the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
