Games Workshop revives the long-awaited Warhammer 40,000 animation Astartes 2 with a breathtaking teaser trailer that has thrilled fans. Yet, there’s a catch: the teaser’s content won’t appear in the final animation.

Astartes 2 follows the iconic fan-made Astartes animation by Syama Pedersen, widely regarded as the pinnacle of Warhammer 40,000 animations, rivaled only by Amazon’s recent Space Marine 2 animation for the Secret Level anthology.

The original Astartes was so impactful that it influenced Saber Interactive’s hit game Space Marine 2, prompting Games Workshop to hire Pedersen for the sequel.

After years of silence, sparking fears of cancellation, Games Workshop unveiled the Astartes 2 teaser on January 29, delighting Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts.

While the teaser fuels excitement for Astartes 2, set to debut in 2026 exclusively on Warhammer+, Games Workshop clarified that it doesn’t feature actual scenes from the animation.

“This teaser trailer is not clips from the new animation but a montage of shots depicting the past lives of characters in the show. A subtle hint at the end reveals the story’s direction...We invite you to theorize and piece it together,” stated a Warhammer Community post.

Despite its allure, the teaser’s lack of a clear disclaimer may mislead fans expecting its scenes in Astartes 2, as most won’t see the clarifying post.

Still, fans are buzzing with theories, with the trailer’s final image suggesting an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad.
