Steam Player Count Soars After Patch 8 Release

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has rolled out its eagerly anticipated final patch, marking the culmination of its remarkable journey. On April 15, 2025, Larian Studios unveiled BG3’s Patch 8, signifying the last major update for the game. The finality of this update sparked a significant increase in player numbers, propelling BG3 just beyond Steam's top 10 most played games. Previously hovering around 60,000 concurrent players, it has now soared to over 169,000.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke celebrated the surge in players on Twitter (X) on April 22, attributing it to the robust mod support that allows the studio to shift focus to their "next big thing." It's been reported that Larian Studios will depart from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Universe to embark on a new venture.

Consequently, D&D owner Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro will continue the Baldur’s Gate franchise without Larian Studios. They are currently engaging with other studios to potentially develop Baldur’s Gate 4.

12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!

Patch 8, announced in a November 2024 Steam blog post, has been meticulously crafted. It introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play, and a host of other features.
