The upcoming Xbox app's November release was revealed by Sarah Bond on X (formerly Twitter). This follows Google's settlement of a four-year antitrust lawsuit with Epic Games. The court's decision mandates Google to provide third-party app stores with access to its full app catalog and facilitate their distribution for three years (November 1st, 2024 – November 1st, 2027), unless developers opt out.
Why is this a big deal?
The existing Xbox Android app allows game downloads to Xbox consoles and cloud gaming for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. The key improvement in November's update is the ability to directly buy games through the app itself.
