Capcom's recent update to its iOS and iPadOS ports of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village has introduced a controversial online DRM check. This update, implemented for purported optimization or compatibility reasons, now requires an internet connection to verify ownership before launching the games. Previously, these premium-priced titles were fully playable offline.

This change is a significant drawback, rendering the games inaccessible without a persistent online connection. While the verification process is relatively quick, the inability to play offline is a substantial inconvenience for many players. The forced online check occurs every time the game is launched, further compounding the issue.

This mandatory online DRM is a regrettable addition to games already purchased. While understandable for preventing piracy, its implementation in this manner negatively impacts the user experience and diminishes the value proposition of these premium mobile ports. Hopefully, Capcom will reconsider this approach or implement a less intrusive verification method.
