Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'

Civilization 7's launch has left many veteran players wondering about the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the series since its inception in 1991, Gandhi's absence is notable. However, according to Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach, Gandhi's omission is not a permanent one.

Beach confirmed that Gandhi's inclusion is part of a larger roadmap for future DLC. He explained that the decision to exclude certain historical figures in the base game is a strategic one, balancing iconic leaders with fresh additions to keep the experience engaging. He cited the previous absences of Mongolia and Persia from earlier Civilization titles as examples of this approach. While some key civilizations, such as Great Britain, are also missing from the initial release (joining in March 2025 as part of DLC), Beach assures players that there's a plan to incorporate these and other significant figures.

The statement offers a clear indication that Gandhi will eventually be added to Civilization 7, likely through future downloadable content.

Meanwhile, Firaxis is addressing the mixed player reception on Steam, primarily concerning the user interface, map variety, and perceived missing features. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback but expressed confidence in the game's long-term success, suggesting that the "legacy Civ audience" will grow to appreciate Civilization 7 with continued play.
