Civilization 7 Slammed by Fans on Steam: Heavy Criticism
Fans of Firaxis were eagerly awaiting another masterpiece following the release of Sid Meier's Civilization VII. However, the initial feedback on Steam has been overwhelmingly negative. Players have expressed frustration over the game's clunky interface, outdated graphics, and a general feeling of incompleteness.
At the time of this post, the game has amassed over 1,000 reviews, with an average score of just 37%. User Cool CGI Dog, who spent approximately 1.5 hours playing, shared their disappointment:
The game feels... so blatantly incomplete after just a few minutes, especially by Civ standards. The resource icons look like they're from 1998, the interface is terrible, and everything feels extremely sloppy.
There isn't any discernible care, which is something I didn't anticipate from Firaxis. This is a far cry from the release of Civ VI, which feels complete compared to this mess. At the very least, Civ VII's interface needs a total visual makeover to partially justify its steep $70 price tag. Playing this game, it feels like Sid Meier himself slapped me around and spat in my mouth. And I certainly didn't agree to that.
Another player, WillNever, who spent around 2.5 hours in the game, echoed similar sentiments:
The interface looks and feels as though it was designed during the alpha phase of development and hasn't been touched or improved since. While the new mechanics are interesting, it's not worth the effort to navigate this terrible interface. The game needs months of tweaking to become enjoyable.
Many reviewers agree that Civilization VII was released prematurely and requires substantial improvements. The $70 price point has been particularly criticized, as players feel it does not reflect the current quality of the product.
Fans of the series are hopeful that the developers will heed the feedback and release updates to address these issues, restoring the game to the high standards expected from the Civilization franchise.
The Civilization series has long been celebrated for its quality and meticulous attention to detail. While the seventh installment currently falls short of these expectations, fans remain optimistic that future updates will bring it up to par.
