Deltarune Update: Chapter 4 Nearing Completion, but Release Still Awaits

Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, recently shared a development update on Deltarune in his newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, a release date for Chapters 3 and 4 (slated for simultaneous release on PC, Switch, and PS4) remains elusive.

Fox confirmed that Chapter 4's maps and battles are finished, but require polishing. Minor adjustments to cutscenes, battle balancing, visual enhancements, and ending sequences are still needed. Despite this, he considers it essentially playable and has received positive feedback from playtesters.

The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, particularly given that this will be the first major paid release since Undertale. Fox highlighted several crucial pre-release tasks: testing new functions, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and thorough bug testing.

Chapter 3 development is complete, and preliminary work on Chapter 5 (map creation, bullet patterns) has already begun. The newsletter included teasers: Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, an Elnina character description, and a new item, GingerGuard.

While the extended wait since Chapter 2's release might disappoint some, Fox assures fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2. He anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 launch. A specific release date, however, remains unannounced.
