The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, took to The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) on April 16 to alert the community about a scam involving fake beta test invitations for The Witcher 4. The post stated, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."

They emphasized that any future legitimate beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher's official social media channels and websites.

The Witcher 4 made its grand entrance at the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist, sparking widespread discussion among fans accustomed to Geralt's lead role in the previous three games.

In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the community's reaction to Ciri taking center stage. Weber, who also enjoyed playing as Geralt, assured fans that the team is committed to making Ciri's journey compelling and worthwhile. "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago," he explained.

The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude towards fans who support the decision to feature Ciri as the lead character. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released," he said.

The developers have promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious entry in the series, introducing new regions and monsters.
