暴雪表示计划长期运营《暗黑破坏神4》，特别是考虑到这款游戏已成为公司历史上销售速度最快的游戏。在最近接受VGC采访时，《暗黑破坏神》系列负责人Rod Fergusson和《暗黑破坏神4》执行制作人Gavian Whishaw分享了他们的目标：让所有暗黑系列游戏（包括暗黑4、3、2甚至初代）都保持长久的生命力和玩家兴趣，这对于暴雪来说是双赢的局面。
Fergusson告诉VGC：“你会注意到，暴雪很少关闭任何游戏。你仍然可以玩《暗黑破坏神》、《暗黑破坏神2》、《暗黑破坏神2：重制版》和《暗黑破坏神3》，对吧？所以，只要人们在玩暴雪游戏，那就很棒。”
当被问及如果《暗黑破坏神4》的玩家数量与之前的《暗黑破坏神》游戏不相上下，是否会成为暴雪的问题时，Fergusson表示，“人们玩哪个版本都不是问题”。他继续说道：“《暗黑破坏神2：重制版》真正令人兴奋的一点是，这款21年前的游戏重制版拥有非常庞大的粉丝群体。所以，只要人们在我们这个生态系统中玩耍并热爱暴雪游戏，就是一个巨大的利好。”
Fergusson进一步表示，暴雪希望玩家“玩他们想玩的游戏”。虽然如果更多玩家从《暗黑破坏神3》转向《暗黑破坏神4》，对公司来说会有经济效益，但他指出，公司“并没有试图积极地去引导玩家转移”。
