Dishonored 2, one of Bethesda's most acclaimed titles from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 era, has surprisingly received a new update - though not the one fans anticipated. Originally launched in late 2016 as the sequel to the beloved 2012 original, Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a new playable protagonist. Its innovative mission designs, particularly The Clockwork Mansion and A Crack in the Slab, became instant classics thanks to their inventive mechanics and meticulously crafted environments.

While Arkane Lyon developed Dishonored 2 and later gained recognition with 2021's Deathloop, its sister studio Arkane Austin was among the casualties of Microsoft's 2024 studio closures. This restructuring also affected Roundhouse Studios, Alpha Dog Games, and initially Tango Gameworks (though Krafton later revived Tango). Arkane Austin's portfolio included the first Dishonored, 2017's sci-fi masterpiece Prey, and the underwhelming 2023 co-op shooter Redfall. Arkane Lyon continues operations and is currently deep in development on Marvel's Blade in partnership with Marvel Games.

Completely unexpectedly, Dishonored 2 players recently spotted a minor update across Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam platforms. While the patch appears focused on bug fixes, SteamDB indicates it also updates language files. The update is surprisingly compact at just 230MB on most platforms, though Xbox users must redownload the entire 40GB game.

Dishonored 2's Surprise Update Arrives Without 60 FPS Boost

The purpose of this unexpected update remains unclear, but many players express disappointment that it doesn't include the long-requested performance enhancement. While nearly all other Arkane titles support 60 FPS on current-gen consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS - unlike its predecessor and 2017's Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Some speculate Arkane Lyon might save a 60 FPS update for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, though this seems an unreasonably long wait for such a fundamental improvement.

Though fans continue hoping for a third mainline Dishonored installment, its development - if happening at all - would likely take several years, especially with Arkane Austin's closure reducing the studio's overall output. Currently, Arkane Lyon is fully committed to Marvel's Blade, a third-person action game without a confirmed release timeframe.
