Snow White, directed by Marc Webb, known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man films, has had a challenging start at the box office. According to Comscore, the film earned $43 million domestically during its opening weekend, marking it as the second highest opening of 2025, trailing only behind Captain America: Brave New World. Despite topping this week's chart, Snow White fell short of the $45 million debut of the live-action Dumbo from 2019 and did not meet pre-release estimates.

To put these figures into perspective, other Disney live-action remakes have seen much stronger openings. For instance, The Lion King (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Jungle Book (2016), and The Little Mermaid (2023) all surpassed the $100 million mark in their domestic opening weekends.

Internationally, Snow White's performance was also subdued, with an opening weekend haul of $44.3 million. This brings the film's global total to $87.3 million, as reported by Comscore.

However, there is hope for Snow White. Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to Disney's The Lion King remake, also had a weak start with a domestic opening of $35.4 million. Yet, it went on to earn over $717 million worldwide. Disney is likely banking on a similar 'sleeper hit' success for Snow White, especially amidst ongoing discussions about the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has grossed $400.8 million globally after six weekends.

IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, praising it for being "a live-action Disney remake that meaningfully adapts its original, rather than creating a lesser mimicry."
