Will it be challenging to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at its launch or throughout 2025? Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, assures that the company is prepared to meet consumer demand with sufficient stock through the holiday season.

In an interview with IGN discussing the new Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted the enthusiastic response to the Switch 2 and outlined plans for a steady product supply in 2025. The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.

“Nintendo President Mr. Shuntaro Furukawa recently shared that we’re projecting 15 million units for the Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million for the original Switch this fiscal year,” Bowser explained.

“This projection reflects our goal to replicate the success of the original Nintendo Switch in its first 10 months. In the U.S., we’re confident our production and supply chain will meet consumer demand. The strong preorder response shows the excitement for the Switch 2, and we’re committed to maintaining a consistent flow of units through the holidays.”

This is welcome news for U.S. consumers eager to purchase a Switch 2 this year. Preorders have faced challenges, with a delay caused by tariffs pushing the start to April 24, and the console priced at $449.99. Preorders have been highly competitive. Additionally, Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the release date isn’t guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.

Concerns have also arisen about potential tariff impacts on the Switch 2’s price and its games. When asked about maintaining the $450 price point for the launch and beyond, Bowser provided a measured response.

Bowser remained noncommittal but emphasized Nintendo’s dedication to the announced pricing of $450 for the standard Switch 2 and $500 for the Mario Kart World bundle.

“By setting the price at $449 for the standalone unit and $499 for the Mario Kart World bundle, we’ve made a clear commitment,” Bowser stated.

“We prioritized establishing these price points, even with new tariffs announced, to reassure consumers about affordability. While the situation remains fluid, and future market changes are hard to predict, our focus is on ensuring the Nintendo Switch 2 and its hardware remain as accessible as possible under current or evolving market conditions.”
