In a recent livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, as reported by Automaton, Horii mentioned that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the game. This marks the first update since May 2024, following the tragic losses of character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama, and the transition of lead producer Yu Miyake to Square Enix's mobile game division.

Amid concerns about potential cancellation due to restructuring at Square Enix and a dearth of updates, Horii's latest remarks confirm that Dragon Quest 12 is still actively being developed.
