In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey offers significant choices impacting the main storyline, and you'll frequently have companions fighting alongside you. These companions remain at your side throughout battles, offering significant support. While you generally control the Wanderer, you can temporarily assume control of your companion for a powerful advantage. Here's how:

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to your companion is only possible during battles where a companion is present. Before a battle, during the war council, your companion will be listed as the final menu option. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't available then. Once the battle starts, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.

Below their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This meter fills as you:

• Parry attacks
• Perfectly dodge
• Assault officers
• Utilize Weapon Arts

Most combat actions contribute to filling this meter, though at varying speeds.

Once your companion's blue meter is full, a "Change Character" button appears beside it. Press and hold this button for about a second to switch control. The button is the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Strategically switching characters is key. Companions are incredibly strong, but your control is temporary—lasting roughly a minute. The blue meter that enabled the switch will gradually deplete, indicating the remaining time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of powerful combat arts.

Switching initiates with a large attack from your new character; aim carefully! Your companion also retains their own full Musou gauge and health bar, allowing you to unleash their devastating special attack.
