Dynasty Warriors: Origins doesn't have a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. While sprinting is useful, traversing large battlefields to rescue officers quickly often requires faster transportation. Enter your trusty steed! Summonable at any time, in the overworld or during battles, your horse offers a significant speed advantage and even allows for mounted combat, ideal for hit-and-run tactics. Below, we'll guide you through acquiring your first horse, leveling it up, and switching between mounts.

Your journey begins in Chapter 1. After completing the "Test of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld. You'll find him northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp. Simply speak to him to receive your first horse as a gift; it will be automatically equipped.

Summon your horse by pressing down on the left joystick (console) or pressing V (keyboard).

Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on completed missions, even if you don't actively ride it. Main story battles contribute to its XP, but skirmishes do not. Missions are indicated by a red diamond with a soldier icon. The XP earned depends on battle length and your horse usage, including charging into enemies. Leveling up unlocks unique buffs for each horse.

While your first horse is automatically equipped, you can acquire and equip others. Access the Battle Preparation menu—the last option on the left side of the screen—to manage your mounts. Each horse offers different perks, with some inherently faster and more effective than others. Consider switching for optimal performance. To obtain new horses, maximize the peace level of a region. A new horse will then be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
