Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion finally reveals the fate of Dragonlord Placidusax, a long-standing mystery. The DLC explains the absence of two of the boss's three missing heads.

Placidusax's Missing Heads: A Battle with Bayle the Dread

Reddit user Matrix_030 discovered that two of Placidusax's missing heads are embedded in the neck of Bayle the Dread, another formidable dragon boss. Bayle himself is also severely wounded, missing wings and limbs, suggesting a brutal, mutually destructive battle.

The Talisman of the Dread, found in Elder's Hovel, confirms this ancient conflict. Its description details a challenge issued by Bayle to Placidusax, resulting in "grievous mutual injury."

Despite their injuries, both dragons remain incredibly powerful bosses, boasting massive health pools and challenging movesets. Bayle's aggressive fighting style makes summoning Spirit Ashes difficult at the start of the encounter.

While the location of Placidusax's third head remains unknown, many fans theorize that Bayle is responsible for its removal as well. The expansion provides compelling evidence to support this theory.
