Elder Scrolls Online Introduces Subclasses After 11 Years of Fan Demand
The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has thrilled its community by introducing a much-anticipated feature: subclasses. After 11 long years of fan requests, this addition is set to enhance the gameplay experience significantly. Dive into the details of this exciting update and what the future holds for ESO.
Over 3000 Combinations of Skill Lines

Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, The Elder Scrolls Online is rolling out a plethora of new features. Announced during the ESO Direct 2025 on April 10, the subclass system is a game-changer. Fans have long desired the ability to swap classes without starting anew, a tedious process in any MMO. Zenimax Online Studios is now addressing this by introducing subclasses, allowing players to mix and match skill lines without the need to reroll their characters.

To unlock this feature, players need to reach level 50. They will then retain one skill line from their base class and can swap out two others with any of the other six classes' skill lines. This opens up over 3000 unique combinations, enabling players to tailor their playstyle precisely.

ESO Game Director Rich Lambert has expressed confidence in this new system, noting that extensive testing has been conducted. Despite potential increases in Power Levels, the team is "fine with where it is," ensuring a balanced and enjoyable experience.
Seasons of the Worm Cult

In a shift towards seasonal content, ZeniMax Online aims to experiment more with its releases and respond to player feedback. Studio Director Matt Firor explained, "We want to keep telling great stories, but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems, and that's exactly what we're going to do, but we'll do this in a different cadence, one that allows us, the developers, to broaden our focus and increase variety."

The next chapter, Seasons of the Worm Cult, continues the saga from the original Molag Bal storyline. Set on the new Isle of Solstice zone, players will delve into the resurgence of the Worm Cult. Producer Susan Kath mentioned that while this season will span most of the year, future seasons will be shorter, lasting 3 to 6 months. Additionally, "remix" seasons will revisit past storylines, with a teased Dark Brotherhood-themed season on the horizon.
