This guide details the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley, explaining its functions, how to obtain necessary materials, and the best enchantment choices for tools and weapons. Updated for Stardew Valley 1.6.

Obtaining Cinder Shards

The Volcano Forge requires Cinder Shards. Obtain them by:

• Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
• Enemy drops (Magma Sprite, Magma Duggy, Magma Sparker, False Magma Cap – varying drop rates).
• Fishing ponds with 7+ Stingrays (2-5 shards, 7-9% daily chance).

Cinder Shards cannot be created in a Crystalarium.

The Mini-Forge

After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge:

• 5 Dragon Teeth
• 10 Iron Bars
• 10 Gold Bars
• 5 Iridium Bars

It functions identically to the Volcano Dungeon forge.

Weapon Forging

Forge weapons up to three times using gemstones and Cinder Shards (10, 15, then 20 shards per forge). Gemstone effects:

• Amethyst: +1 knockback per forge.
• Aquamarine: +4.6% critical hit chance per forge.
• Emerald: +2/+3/+2 speed per forge (total +7).
• Jade: +10% critical hit damage per forge.
• Ruby: +10% damage per forge.
• Topaz: +1 defense per forge.
• Diamond: Three random upgrades (10 shards).

Best Weapon Upgrades:

For maximum damage, prioritize Emerald and Ruby. Combine with Aquamarine or Jade for critical hit enhancements. For survivability (e.g., Qi Challenges), Topaz and Amethyst are beneficial.

Unforging Weapons:

Place the weapon in the left slot and select the red X to remove all forging (some shards recovered, gemstone lost). Enchantments remain.

Infinity Weapons

Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer into Infinity Weapons using three Galaxy Souls (20 shards each). Keeps existing upgrades and enchantments.

Galaxy Souls:

Obtain Galaxy Souls by:

• Buying from Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems).
• Big Slime drops (Dangerous Mines, Mr. Qi quests).
• Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars, last day of season, after 50 Dangerous Monster kills).
• Drops from Dangerous Monsters (after 50 kills).

Enchantments

Enchant tools/weapons (excluding slingshots) using a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Effects are random.

Weapon Enchantments:

• Artful: Halved special move cooldown.
• Bug Killer: Double damage to bugs, kills Armored Bugs.
• Crusader: Double damage to undead, permanently kills mummies.
• Vampiric: 9% chance to regain health on kill.
• Haymaker: Double fiber/33% hay chance from weeds.

Bug Killer and Crusader are generally most useful.

Innate Enchantments (Dragon Tooth):

Apply innate enchantments using a Dragon Tooth. One enchantment guaranteed from each set below:

Set 1: Slime Slayer, +Crit Power, +Attack, +Speed

Set 2 (not guaranteed): Slime Gatherer, +Defense, -Weight

Tool Enchantments:

Twelve enchantments, tool-specific. Examples:

• Auto-Hook (Fishing Rod): Instant hook.
• Bottomless (Watering Can): Endless water.
• Efficient (various): No energy drain.
• Preserving (Fishing Rod): 50% chance to save bait/tackle.

Best Tool Enchantments:

• Axe: Shaving (resources), Swift/Efficient (speed/energy).
• Watering Can: Bottomless.
• Hoe: Generous (resources), Archeologist (artifacts), Reaching/Efficient (area/energy).
• Pickaxe: Swift/Powerful (speed/power).
• Fishing Rod: Preserving (conserves resources).
• Pan: Generous/Reaching (resources/area).
