Event Horizon Dark Descent: Film Prequel Revealed

Nearly three decades after its theatrical debut, Paul W.S. Anderson's cult classic Event Horizon is receiving a prequel story. IDW Publishing announces Event Horizon: Dark Descent, a five-issue comic series that will uncover the terrifying events preceding the film and reveal the fate of the Event Horizon's original crew.

Dark Descent features writing by Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness) and artwork by Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance), with coloring by Pip Martin (That Texas Blood). Cover art comes from Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.

IDW's official synopsis for Event Horizon: Dark Descent:

Embracing the hard-R horror of the shocking film, EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5) arrives in comic shops this August. Set before the movie's events, this accessible yet terrifying prequel reveals the ultimate fate of Captain Kilpack's original crew as their ship navigates unspeakable horrors. Witness the crew's torment at the hands of demonic forces led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, in this visceral descent into absolute evil.

"It's an incredible honor to expand this beloved universe, and I'm approaching it with both passion and responsibility," Ward commented. "We're taking bold, bloody creative risks that will forever change how viewers experience the original film."

"Christian's additions to the lore will shock fans while remaining true to the source material," Ward added. "The gruesome visual opportunities excite me as an artist, and collaborating directly with the original film team ensures this will satisfy longtime devotees while terrifying new readers."
