The Evil Genius series may get a new game
Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley has expressed an open stance on the future of the Evil Genius franchise, hinting at the possibility of an Evil Genius 3 without making any firm commitments. The series is clearly close to Kingsley's heart, and he is currently pondering the best way to elevate it further. While no concrete plans have been announced, Kingsley's passion for the franchise suggests that fans might see more in the future.
Kingsley has also shared his vision for expanding the theme of world domination beyond the traditional base-building simulator genre. He believes that strategic gameplay could be explored in new formats, sparking excitement about potential innovations. Although specific projects remain under wraps, the development team is buzzing with ideas on how to advance the Evil Genius universe.
When Evil Genius 2 was released in 2021, it garnered "mostly positive" reviews from critics on Metacritic. However, the reception among the general player base was less enthusiastic. Despite boasting enhanced graphics and efforts to address previous shortcomings, the sequel did not meet the high expectations set by its predecessor. Players voiced frustrations over various elements, including the global map, the way minions and structures were managed, and numerous other features, indicating that Evil Genius 2 fell short of the original's charm and gameplay depth.
