Unleash the Ghoul Within

The latest update for Fallout 76, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live, as announced by Bethesda on their website on March 18. This season introduces a variety of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P. Players can now undergo Ghoulification by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline, which leads to a new area in the Savage Divide and introduces new characters to aid in your transformation.

As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, known as "Gherks." The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter that boosts different stats based on its level. At 0%, players experience significant gameplay changes, including a +150% increase in Melee Damage, but also suffer from reduced Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and drastically reduced gun accuracy.

The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing the player to emit a glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive Perks. There are 28 perks to choose from, plus two new legendary perks specifically for Ghouls. Note that Ghouls cannot access perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new state.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with the new abilities and Gherks. However, interactions with certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially locking players out of some questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to access content otherwise restricted to them.

If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen. This is a one-way decision, as the "Leap of Faith" questline cannot be repeated. However, players can purchase a Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms if they wish to become a Ghoul again.

Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes

New and veteran players alike can now take advantage of the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost helps players quickly engage with multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and certain story content.

The Season 20 update also includes various bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.

Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its initial challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
