The launch of FF9’s 25th anniversary website earlier this year initially sparked these speculations. The excitement grew when Square Enix shared a quote from Vivi, the adored black mage, on Twitter.

The latest update features small icons of four out of the eight main characters. Clicking these icons reveals brief descriptions accompanied by new artwork from FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, who is also known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These profiles offer insights into each character's roles and objectives within the game's narrative.

While no official confirmation has been made, the meticulous attention Square Enix has given to this anniversary celebration has led fans to believe that an announcement for the FF9 remake may be imminent. For now, enthusiasts will need to stay tuned for more updates.

New Merch Available

Square Enix has also expanded its merchandise lineup for the FF9 25th anniversary. New items include Garnet's necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi's hat, and a set of acrylic standees among others.

Garnet's Silver Necklace is available for pre-order with an expected release date of November 15, priced at approximately 38,500 yen or $260. Vivi's hat replica, which fans can wear, is also up for reservation, set to release on September 6 for about 17,600 yen or $120.

The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection features eight different designs and is sold in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for collectors.
