A recent report from Niko Partners, a video game market research firm, suggests Square Enix and Tencent are collaborating on a mobile adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV. This article delves into the details of this potential joint venture and its implications.

FFXIV Mobile Game: Largely Unconfirmed

Niko Partners' report highlights 15 games approved by China's NPPA for release within the country. Among these is a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, reportedly under development by Tencent. Other notable titles include mobile and PC versions of Rainbow Six, along with two Marvel-based games (Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals), and a mobile Dynasty Warriors 8 game.

While rumors of Tencent's involvement in a Final Fantasy XIV mobile project circulated last month, neither Tencent nor Square Enix have officially confirmed this collaboration.

According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad's August 3rd X (formerly Twitter) post, the mobile FFXIV title is anticipated to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from the PC version. However, Ahmad emphasizes that this information stems primarily from industry speculation and lacks official confirmation.

Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market positions this potential partnership with Square Enix as a strategic move toward Square Enix's stated goal of expanding its flagship titles to multiple platforms. Square Enix announced earlier this year its intention to aggressively pursue a multi-platform strategy for key titles like Final Fantasy.
