Final Fantasy 14 Stops Automatic Housing Demolition Shortly After Restarting It
Final Fantasy XIV Halts Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily suspended automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.
The suspension, implemented on January 9th, comes just one day after the company resumed these timers following a previous moratorium related to Hurricane Helene's aftermath. The 45-day demolition timers, designed to free up housing plots from inactive players and Free Companies, are now paused indefinitely. However, players can still reset their individual timers by logging into their homes.
Square Enix cited the Los Angeles wildfires as the reason for this unexpected pause, stating they will monitor the situation and announce a resumption date at a later time. This decision reflects the company's understanding of the challenges faced by players potentially impacted by the real-world events.
This isn't the only event impacting entertainment due to the California wildfires. The popular web series, Critical Role, also postponed a major event, and an NFL playoff game was relocated.
The recent events, including this housing demolition pause and the return of a free login campaign, have made for a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players. The duration of this latest suspension remains unknown.
