Fishing Guide for Rune Slayers: Basics

If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* isn't an MMORPG, let this be your proof: it includes fishing. And as we all know, a game with fishing is officially an MMORPG. Joking aside, if you're here to understand how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*, we've got you covered. We struggled with it too, but once we figured it out, we're excited to share how you can catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It's not as intuitive as in *Fisch*.

Before you begin catching fish, make sure to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda is swimming). Simon requires you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks later).

Here's the catch: to catch fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman sells these items.

So, purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. Most players suggest having at least 5 worms, but we bought 10 to be safe. Before you ask, NO, you cannot equip the bait. The bait (Worm) simply needs to be in your inventory, and although you don't equip it, it's used automatically when you fish. When you catch a fish, one Worm is removed from your inventory.

Here's the crucial part: you won't catch any fish without at least 5 bait items. We tried with just one Worm initially and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms in our inventory, we started reeling in aquatic life. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep track of them. Once you have everything ready, move on to the next step.

First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can't equip it, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it in both hands.

Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman works well).

Then, watch the bobber, and when you see it ripple once or twice, click M1 again to reel in your catch. That's it.

This method doesn't guarantee a catch every time. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll pull up junk. The good news is Simon will count junk as a catch (that's why we used "fish" in quotation marks earlier).

So, cast your line, wait for the ripples, press M1, and reel in anything five times. We caught only two actual fish, while the rest were Old Cups.

Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He'll give you a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside. This way, you won't need to waste inventory space on fishing tackle.

That's all there is to it. Happy fishing! If you need more help, check out our The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Rune Slayer.
