Guitar Hero Mobile Launch Stumbles with AI Announcement
Guitar Hero Mobile: A Rocky Start for a Legendary Franchise
The rhythm game genre may not have achieved widespread Western success, but Guitar Hero stands as a monumental exception. The legendary franchise is poised for a mobile comeback, yet Activision's announcement stumbled badly.
Instead of a captivating trailer or press release, the reveal consisted of a jarring, AI-generated image on Instagram. Predictably, the art overshadowed the exciting news, especially given Activision's recent controversy surrounding AI art in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Details on Guitar Hero Mobile's appearance and sound remain scarce. While the series had a previous mobile iteration nearly two decades ago (see image below), expectations are high for a significantly more impressive revival.

A Discordant Debut
The AI-generated art used in the announcement drew widespread criticism, with many noting its poor quality and suggesting it wasn't even produced using modern image generators. This unfortunate start casts a shadow over Guitar Hero Mobile's potential, particularly considering the strong competition from successful rhythm games like Space Ape's BeatStar.
Despite the initial setback and considerable potential for a successful mobile adaptation, Activision's misstep is undeniable. The excitement surrounding Guitar Hero's return is unfortunately tempered by this controversial launch.
