Harrison Ford Doesn't Care That Indiana Jones 5 Flopped, and Joined Marvel For a 'Good Time'

Harrison Ford shrugs off the critical and commercial disappointment of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, quipping that "s**t happens." He joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) simply because it looked like fun.

The iconic actor, known for his roles in Star Wars, told The Wall Street Journal Magazine that despite feeling there was another Indiana Jones story to tell, he's unconcerned about the film's negative reception and estimated $100 million loss. He explained his motivation for returning to the role: "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened," Ford said. "I’m still happy I made that movie."

This hasn't deterred him from joining another major franchise. Ford will appear in Captain America: Brave New World, taking over the role of Thaddeus Ross from the late William Hurt, a role significantly expanded to include Red Hulk. He joined the MCU before knowing about this transformation, having not even seen a script for Brave New World. His decision was based purely on enjoyment: "Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time," Ford said. "I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."

Brave New World, slated for release on February 14th, is one of the shortest MCU films to date. It stars Anthony Mackie as Captain America, replacing Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, and features deep-cut Marvel characters, including a payoff for a tease in The Incredible Hulk with the introduction of The Leader.
