The highly anticipated Heart of Democracy major update for *Helldivers 2* is now live on PC and PlayStation 5, bringing with it the long-awaited Super Earth maps. As previously leaked, the update introduces the Illuminate invasion to our home planet, allowing players to engage in missions within the bustling Mega Cities alongside SEAF soldiers.

The new city biomes feature operations that are crucial for liberating the cities, significantly impacting the ongoing planetary campaigns within *Helldivers 2*'s community-driven Galactic War. Developer Arrowhead emphasizes the importance of these missions, highlighting their role in the larger meta narrative that they orchestrate.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the update presents Helldivers with a new objective: to repel the Illuminate invasion by gaining control over areas where the enemy fleet is landing. This task is likened to an intense game of intergalactic tug-of-war, where players must constantly battle to maintain and regain control of territories.

Players can now activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as demonstrated in the game's trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops will assist in defending the cities, either fighting independently or following Helldivers to provide temporary backup. Players must also be cautious of civilians still roaming the streets, adding a layer of complexity to the gameplay as they manage friendly fire alongside their alien adversaries.

The Heart of Democracy update underscores Arrowhead's commitment to sustaining *Helldivers 2* for years to come, following its record-breaking launch. Addressing player concerns about the studio potentially shifting focus to a new project, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani reassured the community, stating, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it slowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a long time."

Jorjani further elaborated on the longevity of content updates, saying, "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going," referring to the game's virtual currency used to purchase Premium Warbonds. He acknowledged last summer's challenges but expressed optimism about the game's future, thanks to the strong support from the player base.
