A recent Reddit thread highlighted significant hitbox issues in Marvel Rivals, a new competitive shooter. Videos showcased instances where Spider-Man hit Luna Snow from an improbable distance, and other examples of seemingly missed shots registering as hits. While lag compensation has been suggested as a cause, many believe the core problem lies with inaccurate hitbox geometry. Professional players have further demonstrated consistent inconsistencies, with shots landing reliably when aimed slightly right of the crosshair but failing when aimed left. This points to a more widespread problem impacting multiple characters' hitboxes.
Despite this, Marvel Rivals, often dubbed the "Overwatch killer," has enjoyed a highly successful Steam launch. Over 444,000 concurrent players were recorded on its first day – a number comparable to Miami's population. While optimization concerns exist, particularly for users with lower-end graphics cards like the Nvidia GeForce 3050, the game's generally positive reception suggests that the fun factor outweighs performance issues for many players. The game's revenue model also contributes to its appeal; battle passes do not expire, removing the pressure of constant gameplay to maximize value. This feature alone could significantly influence player perception and enjoyment.
