"Housemarque Unveils Saros: The 2026 Sequel to Returnal"
Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the eagerly awaited sequel to their 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros stars Rahul Kohli and promises an immersive experience.
Showcased at the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros exudes the signature Housemarque style. Players will embody Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for answers on a treacherous, ever-changing planet shadowed by an eclipse and inhabited by at least one formidable entity. The tagline "come back stronger" hints at the roguelike elements fans loved in Returnal, while the display of fireballs suggests the bullet-hell challenges Housemarque is known for.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. Although a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action of Returnal. However, Saros introduces key gameplay differences from its predecessor. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Louden emphasized that while the world of Saros shifts with each player's death, there's a significant focus on permanent resources and progression. Players can now permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a layer of lasting development to the game.
Housemarque plans to reveal more about Saros later this year, including an extended gameplay demonstration.
