James Gunn Unveils First Look at Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Excitement is building as DC Studios has officially started filming their highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this milestone, DC's head honcho, James Gunn, took to Bluesky to share a sneak peek of Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, as she steps into the iconic role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The shared image captures Alcock in her actor's chair, offering fans a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come.

Gunn's post radiated enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Craig Gillespie, acclaimed for directing Cruella and I, Tonya, will be steering the ship for this superhero adventure, as previously reported last April.
While details are still under wraps, we know that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws significant inspiration from the graphic novel of the same name penned by Tom King, with art by Bilquis Evely and colors by Ana Norgueira. This standalone narrative follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who teams up with Supergirl to avenge her father's murder by the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills. The comic, which earned a nomination for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards, is a must-read for any fan awaiting the film.
The cast is shaping up impressively with Matthias Schoenaerts set to play Krem, and Eve Ridley taking on the role of Ruthye. The ensemble also features David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second installment in the newly revamped DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II, which remains uncertain in its connection to Gunn's overarching movie-verse, and a rumored Clayface film directed by Mike Flanagan.
