LEGO's June Top Sellers Face Backorders

Several of the most sought-after new LEGO sets from June are already becoming scarce and are currently available for pre-order. The Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter book nooks, along with the Minifigure Vending Machine, are all on backorder through the LEGO store. Fortunately, The Lord of the Rings: Balrog book nook is still in stock. You can place your order now to reserve a set, though shipping will be delayed.

These book nooks are excellent for adding character to any bookshelf, and the LEGO Minifigure Vending Machine stands out because it works just like the real thing. Simply insert a coin, turn the knob, and a minifigure packaged in a plastic bubble drops out. After assembling the vending machine, we found it to be a fun and satisfying project once completed.

If you're interested in any of these three sets, be prepared for a wait. The Harry Potter Hogwarts Express book nook has the earliest shipping date (starting July 11) and is limited to three per customer. Both the Minifigure Vending Machine and the Sherlock Holmes book nook are listed with a 60-day shipping estimate, though specific dates are uncertain. Adding the vending machine to my cart indicated shipping by September 18, while the Sherlock Holmes book nook showed no specific date. Purchase limits are five for the vending machine and three for the book nook—but how many people really need that many?

The vending machine and Sherlock Holmes book nook are recommended for builders 18 and older, since these models can be somewhat complex. LEGO offers numerous sets designed for adults, making them perfect as gifts or display pieces. My own LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System, for example, pairs wonderfully with my video game collection as a standout shelf display.
