Keanu Reeves Pitches 'Constantine 2' to DC Studios, Script Now in Development

Keanu Reeves has shared the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. Playing the iconic role of John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves has now confirmed that a script for Constantine 2 is in the works. Following his success with The Matrix, Reeves' portrayal in the original film has garnered a dedicated fanbase eager for more.
After over two decades of anticipation and Reeves expressing his interest in a sequel, recent developments indicate significant progress. Reeves revealed to Inverse that they pitched a story to DC Studios, which received the green light to move forward to the scriptwriting phase. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,'" Reeves shared. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

Despite this promising update, it's important to note that there's no assurance that Constantine 2 will be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The project is not yet confirmed in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU), nor has it been mentioned by Gunn or Safran as a potential addition. Thus, the sequel remains on the edge of possibility.
Reeves, however, hinted that should Constantine 2 come to fruition, it will continue in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured, humorously adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who in September mentioned that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura admitted his apprehension about reading it, driven by his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
