Killer Instinct Gold Joins Nintendo Switch Online Library

Killer Instinct Gold has been freshly added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, bringing a classic Nintendo 64 game to the fingertips of Online Expansion Pack subscribers. This title is a port of the arcade hit Killer Instinct 2, and it now joins the original Killer Instinct in an ever-growing collection of retro games.

Launched back in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare. At the time, Rare was a key second-party developer for Nintendo, responsible for iconic titles such as Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. In Killer Instinct Gold, players can choose from a roster of 10 fierce fighters and dive into various game modes, boasting an arsenal of hundreds of thousands of moves and killer combos.

Interestingly, Rare, and thus the Killer Instinct series, is now under the ownership of Microsoft. This makes Killer Instinct Gold the latest Xbox Game Studios title to make its way onto the Switch. Although the franchise saw a revival with the 2013 Xbox One launch title, there have been no signs of Microsoft planning a new sequel.

The 10 Best Fighting Games

View 11 ImagesNintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based service that enhances the gaming experience on the Nintendo Switch. It offers online multiplayer capabilities, allowing you to play with or against friends, and includes a rich library of classic Nintendo games from systems like the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the new GameCube libraries. New users can even try it out with a free seven-day trial.

The Nintendo Switch 2 preorders began at the end of April, maintaining the console's price at $449.99. Despite the high demand leading to some uncertainty about delivery, Nintendo has reassured U.S. customers that applied through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery isn't guaranteed. However, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, confidently stated to IGN that Nintendo will have enough units to meet consumer demand "through the holidays."
