Larian Studios, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, has announced a shift in focus to its next major project. Following the success of Baldur's Gate 3, the studio is now entering what they've termed a "media blackout" as they concentrate their efforts on crafting their next title. Despite the imminent release of Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 this year, Larian's full attention is now on what comes next.

Swen Vincke, the head of Larian, recently took to Twitter to reflect on the studio's journey, emphasizing the incredible success of Baldur's Gate 3 while hinting at more to come. "But the story ain't over yet," Vincke tweeted, sparking curiosity and excitement among fans.

In a statement to VideoGamer, Larian confirmed that their focus is entirely on the development of a new game, distinct from Baldur's Gate 3 or any Dungeons & Dragons project. The studio's previous attempts to generate internal enthusiasm for a Baldur's Gate sequel were unsuccessful, leading them to explore fresh creative territories.

Hints about Larian's next project surfaced in November 2023 when Vincke spoke about the studio's upcoming work, suggesting it would push boundaries. "I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries," he said, in response to the numerous accolades Baldur's Gate 3 received at The Game Awards.

Additionally, Vincke mentioned to IGN in July 2023 that a sequel to their Divinity: Original Sin series is also in the works, though fans should not expect it immediately. "It's our own universe we built, so we're definitely gonna get back there at some point," Vincke explained, highlighting the need for a creative break after the intense development of Baldur's Gate 3.

With Larian's history rooted in fantasy RPGs, speculation abounds about the nature of their next game. Could it venture into science fiction, a modern-day setting, or perhaps even a different genre altogether?
