Open To Any Sort of Considerations

Following his experience with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won is eager to explore new avenues for future projects. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared insights on the Souls genre with Eurogamer, highlighting his admiration for FromSoftware games, which clearly influenced the creation of Lies of P.

Choi remarked on the upcoming Elden Ring game, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."

This inspiration has led him to consider new directions, including the possibility of multiplayer games. Choi affirmed, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

While Choi is a fan of FromSoftware games, he clarified to Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC that his inspirations are not limited to a single game. He explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players 15-20 hours to complete, featuring numerous bosses and content that the developers initially planned for the game’s launch. He noted, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."

Overture serves as a prequel, immersing players in Krat during its final haunting days as they follow a legendary Stalker. This expansion encapsulates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that couldn't be included at launch due to production constraints. Choi likened Overture to a Director’s Cut, essentially rounding out the game's experience.

He further explained, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." The overwhelming community support post-launch motivated the team to fulfill their vision through the expansion.

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

During an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. The ending provided a glimpse into potential future directions for the Lies of P universe.

In a Director’s Letter video from November 2023, Choi confirmed that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works, suggesting that the final cutscene might be linked to this upcoming project. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce.

Choi assured fans, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

He encouraged players to revisit the base game for hints about what the DLC might include, and mentioned that he has been following fan theories online, some of which he found quite intriguing.
