Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been confirmed as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the 3DS in 2013, is now getting a high-definition makeover for the Switch console.

Nintendo first announced the Luigi's Mansion 2 HD remake last September during a Nintendo Direct presentation, with a June 27th release date confirmed in March. Following a recent trailer showcasing the game's storyline, the developer's identity remained a secret until recently revealed by VGC.

Tantalus Media takes the reins from Next Level Games, the original developer of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, as confirmed in the game's credits. The Australian studio's impressive portfolio also includes the Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Mania and work on PC ports of classic titles.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has received positive early reviews, echoing the success of other recent Nintendo remasters such as Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game has unfortunately encountered pre-order issues similar to those experienced by Paper Mario, with some retailers canceling orders.

Despite the pre-order hiccups, the reveal of Tantalus Media as the developer comes just days before the game's launch. This mirrors Nintendo's past practice of keeping development teams under wraps until close to release, as seen with the Super Mario RPG remake. Similarly, the developer of the upcoming Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Minions remains undisclosed.
