Hasbro has exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering, announcing plans to bring the beloved card game to screens everywhere. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro is teaming up with Legendary Entertainment to develop a shared Magic: The Gathering universe that will span both movies and TV shows, with the movie taking precedence.

Legendary Entertainment, known for producing films like Dune and the Godzilla series including Godzilla vs Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu, is eager to take on this project. "We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production.

While details are still emerging, it appears that the movie and TV adaptations at Legendary will be separate from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set for Netflix. However, there's a possibility that plans may have evolved, potentially integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has grown into one of the world's most popular trading card games. Wizards of the Coast became part of Hasbro in 1999, and since then, Hasbro has been actively involved in adapting its products into movies. The company's portfolio includes adaptations like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons, with ongoing projects such as new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film in development.
