Mai Shiranui Sparks Massive Interest in Street Fighter 6
Street Fighter 6 enthusiasts have been buzzing with excitement as they return to the game to test out the latest addition to the roster: Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. This iconic fighting game by Capcom, which has sold an impressive 4.4 million copies as of December 31, 2024, has been praised for its engaging gameplay, though some fans felt it lacked frequent content updates. However, the developers have recently delighted the community by introducing a new character.
Mai Shiranui marks the third fighter added in the second season of Street Fighter 6, and her inclusion has significantly boosted the game's popularity. On the day of her release, the peak concurrent players on Steam soared to over 63,000, a stark contrast to the previous peak of 24,000 to 27,000 players, marking the highest player count since May 2024. This surge in player engagement demonstrates the powerful draw of new content, especially a character as beloved as Mai Shiranui.
Mai Shiranui is accessible to Battle Pass holders, offering them the chance to delve deeper into the game's World Tour mode. Here, players can build relationships with Mai, learn her unique moves, and then put their skills to the test in the Battle Hub. Additionally, a second costume inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has been added, allowing players to customize Mai's look to their preference.
The excitement doesn't stop with Mai. The Battle Hub is currently hosting a temporary guest, Professor Woshige, a revered figure in the fighting game community and a developer. Players can enjoy facing off against Professor Woshige until March 10. Alongside these additions, the game has introduced new Master League ranks and rewards, further enhancing the competitive aspect of Street Fighter 6.
To showcase Mai Shiranui's abilities, Capcom released a trailer that highlights her techniques, adding to the anticipation and excitement surrounding her arrival in Street Fighter 6.
