"Marvel Rivals Developer Considers Nintendo Switch 2 Release"
The widely popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has been a smashing hit on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has been adamant that the game will not be released on the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans eager to dive into the action. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the prospects of a Nintendo Switch 2 release. The news is encouraging for Switch enthusiasts, as it appears that a Switch 2 version is indeed a possibility.
Wu shared, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason we didn't launch it on the original Switch was that it couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if the Switch 2 can achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, promising a more powerful and advanced version of the beloved console. While specifics about its capabilities are still under wraps, it's set to be a significant upgrade. One notable feature is the potential for a mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it more akin to PC gaming, although the exact implementation remains to be seen.
As of now, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, but fans can look forward to a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2 for more details. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received high praise, scoring an 8/10 in our review. We noted that "it may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so, Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Excitingly, The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the game's roster on February 21.
