Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Account Bans to Mod the Game Even After Season 1 Clampdown
Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized characters with mods, turning Iron Man into Vegeta, Mantis into a goth, and even Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from Chainsaw Man.
Last week's Season 1 update, featuring the Fantastic Four, included a secret anti-modding measure: asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated their terms of service, prohibiting mods, cheats, bots, and unauthorized third-party software, warning players of potential bans.
Despite this, a workaround is circulating, requiring more steps but remaining accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared this workaround on Nexus Mods, cautions users to proceed at their own risk, noting that while NetEase hasn't issued permanent bans yet, the possibility remains.
New mods are already emerging, leveraging the Fantastic Four additions. Ercuallo's mod, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, boasts over 5,000 downloads in just two days.

Whether NetEase will enforce its ban threat remains to be seen. No confirmed bans for modding have surfaced, but workarounds could prompt further action. NetEase's motivation likely stems from potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, gameplay imbalance, and potential performance issues. Prafit even notes that their workaround is best suited for high-performance PCs.
