Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is spearheading efforts to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu's response to a fan on X/Twitter, confirming he's actively working with rights holders to bring the project to the big screen. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he stated.

The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, vanished a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, only to see the project ultimately fall apart. He alluded to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood dealings.

Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-set action franchise. However, the success of his endeavor in securing the rights or otherwise launching the film remains uncertain.

The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he goes undercover within a formidable Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed (earning an 8/10 from IGN), the game surprisingly lacked sequels.
