Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. This new series, picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Alex Segura, writer of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest volume. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

The story unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, following the final major battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The New Republic aims to solidify its rule, but faces significant hurdles as pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploit the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we're launching into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "New galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries await our heroes, blending the familiar with the unexpected. These stories will be action-packed, featuring character moments fans expect, while offering fresh perspectives on the galaxy. We've designed it for easy entry, regardless of which issue you start with."

Noto added, "Alex has crafted fantastic storylines and characters, and I'm thrilled to bring them to the page. It's exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, free from existing film or TV interpretations. I'm creating new looks while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of that time period."

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.

This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
