Masi Oka Eyed for Tingle Role in Zelda Movie

The excitement surrounding the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie continues to grow, and with it comes a myriad of casting speculations. While fans eagerly await who will take on the iconic roles of Link and Princess Zelda, another character's casting has caught our attention: the quirky and beloved Tingle. Takaya Imamura, the creator of Tingle, has recently shared his dream casting choice for the role, and it's not who you might expect.
Don’t Worry; It’s Not Jason Momoa Nor Jack Black
Amidst the swirling questions about the film, such as who will wield the Master Sword and what attire Princess Zelda will wear, the casting of Tingle has become a topic of interest. Known for his balloon-loving antics and green tights, Tingle's inclusion in the movie would certainly add a unique flavor to the adaptation. In a recent interview with VGC, Imamura revealed his ideal actor for the role.
"Masi Oka," Imamura stated. "You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who goes ‘yatta!’, I’d like him to do it."
Masi Oka, renowned for his role as Hiro Nakamura in Heroes and its sequel Heroes Reborn, has showcased his versatility across various genres. From action-packed films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the acclaimed Hawaii Five-O reboot, Oka's comedic timing and energetic performance align perfectly with Tingle's character. His iconic "yatta!" pose from Heroes even mirrors some of Tingle's poses in the game's artwork.
While it remains uncertain whether director Wes Ball will take Imamura's suggestion into consideration or even include Tingle in the film, there's a glimmer of hope. Ball has described the Legend of Zelda movie as a "live-action Miyazaki" film, and Tingle's whimsical nature could fit well within the enchanting world often depicted in Miyazaki's works.
The Legend of Zelda live-action movie was first announced in November 2023, with Wes Ball set to direct and Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad as producers. In March 2024, Ball expressed his commitment to the project, stating, "I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie."
