Universal Pictures has unveiled the first image from Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, The Odyssey, featuring Hollywood icon Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus. Following the monumental success of his 2023 biopic Oppenheimer, Nolan's next venture is a cinematic reimagining of the ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. Mark your calendars for the film's release on July 17, 2026.

The official synopsis hints at an exhilarating experience: “Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”

The Odyssey chronicles the epic journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he navigates his way home over the course of a decade following the Trojan War. While Universal has kept additional plot details under wraps, rumors are swirling about the impressive ensemble cast set to join Damon.

Matt Damon, who was the first actor linked to the project, returns to Universal following his acclaimed performance in Oppenheimer, a film that secured seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Reports suggest that Damon might be accompanied by a stellar lineup including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
